They probably already have hsv1 or hsv2 and are asymptomatic or just lying. 80% of positive people don't know they have it or attribute the symptoms to something else. Tell them to get a DNA PCR test. It is the only test that will reliably reveal latent or asymptomatic infections.

I would suggest you call your local public health organization they often have staff that specialize in STD & STI. They could likely answer your questions.

We have to change our thinking and hopefully the right guy will come along. I would suggest waiting a little longer before you tell them. Of course you need to tell them before sex, but let them get to know you a little better first. I previously dated someone for almost 2 years with hsv2 and never got it. I got hsv1 from oral sex after being with someone for a couple months. go figure.

There are numerous web pages that explain the virus and risks, find a couple that are clear and detailed and have them readily available to show to your partner. Also, take more time with the relationship before having intercourse, allow time for the relationship to develop trust and stronger feelings before revealing. If they care for you enough to be intimate, they will be understanding.

I'm in the same boat you are. It sucks, but I'm trying to get to know a guy before we sleep together in hopes he will like me enough to want to pursue something further. Good luck to you.
