The antibodies for hsv1 and hsv2 have some cross-reactivity, so development of antibodies for one will usually suppress a full-blown infection of the other. When exposed to the other virus, the antibodies of your primary may selectively kill the infected cells and force the new virus immediately into latency. This means that you have the virus, but will not likely become symptomatic and will be LESS contagious, but still transmissible through shedding of partial virus dna.
