I had my first herpes test in 2014 as part of a physical exam. I tested positive for 1 & 2. About six months later I asked for a retest as I have never had symptoms of either. I again tested positive for 1, but negative for 2. I again had a retest a year later, about a month ago, that again showed I was positive for 1 & 2. How is this possible? Can tests give varying results?

    It is documented that tests give false positives and false negatives. I would think the only accurate way is to take a swab frome a sore.
